Ron Desantis’s term will soon end and we will have a new Governor in the State capitol since 2019. After a field of over 12 candidates put there hat in the ring, Byron Donalds emerged victorious on the Republic side with 42% of the vote, with Jay Collins landed 24% of the vote. On the Democratic side there were 6 candidates that ran for the top executive spot in the State, names like Dotie Joseph that have long been supporters of Labor and the CWA. David Jolly took 30% of the vote, and Alex Sink came in second 25% of the vote.
Angel Nixon ran against Alex Vindman, the Florida Congresswoman from Jacksonville beat Vindman with 56% of the vote while Alex Vindman received 43.9%. The clear 13 point win sent a message that the Democratic base in Florida wants a progressive minded candidate representing the party against incumbent Ashley Moody. Moody won with a resounding 79% of the votes cast in Florida on the Republican side with over 1.3 million votes cast.
Now that the primaries are over and we head to the general Elections coming up in November, who will carry the voice of Labor and working families who are struggling to keep up to rating prices and an unsustainable cost of living. Issues that lead the voter concerns are affordability, housing, gas, groceries and healthcare, and the slow raise in income that just seems to not keep up with the cost of living, especially in the metropolitan areas of our State. The cost of living in cities like Miami are sky high, while Orlando and Tampa might be a bit lower they still are hot on the housing, rent front. Who will address these all important issues in a pivotal Election cycle? That’s the real question.
